So I went to Wal-Mart today. It was my once a month trip. It was good for a few reasons. First we only spent 15 minutes in line. Hallelujah! Second, the shelves were decently stocked, no weaving our way around pallets today. I found everything I needed and a few things I didn’t. Third, I came in under budget! I spent only 150.00 instead of the 300.00 that I typically do. Personally, I’m thinking this is because we went to Applebee’s first so I wasn’t walking around like a hungry zombie randomly pulling crap into my cart.
It is bitter cold today. The temp is hovering around zero and the wind is really blowing, giving us a wind-chill factor of around negative 15. Plus, the Wal-Mart parking lot must exist in some kind of vortex because I swear it’s always ten degrees colder and making matters worse, we always park the farthest out so the walk is long. For the most part I’m spoiled. My husband usually drops me off and spares me the walk in.
The first thing I did was grab a cart which had been stored outside. I was quickly terrified of having my own little Christmas Story moment. You know the one, where Flick sticks his tongue to the pole and it sticks. Well I wasn’t sticking my tongue to anything but my hands were threatening to stick. I had no choice but to shop with my gloves on.
Not only did we get out of there in record time but I got a good laugh at the checkout. There was only one person in front of us (a miracle!) and I asked the cashier about one of those divider things. Apparently the store is inexplicably missing most of them but she did give me a hanger to use instead and assured me it could be worse as last week they completely ran out of bags. I got a good laugh but when the next lady came up behind me, she didn’t find it so funny when I handed it off to her. Her face seemed to be stuck in a permanent frown.
At least this trip ended on a good note. I left Wal-Mart under budget, with a good laugh AND my car didn’t even get any dings this time. It was a win win all around.
