Fitness? Fitness in the Bakken? hahahaha. While I have seen a few brave souls out there, I won’t be walking or running or anything in between on ice and snow. That’s out. The nearest fitness gym is too far to bother especially when we are juggling one car right now and well, work takes priority. My husband would think I was REALLY crazy if I told him he couldn’t go to work today because I needed the car so I could go to the gym and exercise my ass. No, that’s out too.
So what’s a girl to do? Like most women of my age the pounds start creeping on. If you’re like me, they started creeping on when you were eight and just never left. I do have one thing going for me though, I know what works for me in regards to losing weight. A low carb diet and strength conditioning. Cardio is evil and although I’ll do a quick 3 minutes in the beginning of a workout to get my heart going, that’s it. I’ve almost killed myself in the past listening to so called fitness gurus tell you that you have to get your heart rate up for x minutes per day. Phooey. Once I abandoned that old fashioned idea and started focusing on building muscle and strength, the pounds literally fell off.
So I should be all set then, since I know what works for me. I should be a paragon of fitness. Hell no, I’m only human after all. Besides, all that sugar got in the way. I don’t mean the cakes and cookies kind of sugar either, rather the processed kind. It can be in any number of things like pickles. Did you know that most pickles have sugar added (I know you can make your own but honestly, I’m not Martha Stewart). To make things more difficult right now is that I cook continually. Not just for myself but to make sure there is warm, good food waiting for my husband at the end of each day. I don’t try and make him diet with me so I’m often juggling cooking for those in my home and feeding myself. Some days I can stick to one menu plan and on other days I’m juggling multiple things. I’m sure I’ll bitching a lot in the coming weeks regarding my food choices… crankiness is a known side effect to cutting out sugar.
