What is crack in a bowl? It’s a super simple addition to your favorite tomato soup that takes it to the next level. Add some toasted bread and you have a sinfully addictive treat that you won’t want to share.
In Orlando there is this wonderful little place on Church Street called the Dessert Lady. You won’t find diet food there. In fact you go there expecting the real deal and that’s exactly what you get. A slice of cake will easily cost you 10.00 and you’ll walk away three pounds heavier. They also have a few non dessert items on their menu including a creamy tomato bisque similar to this. Every time we went there we returned that bowl spotless. Not a drop was left in that bowl, nor a crumb on the plate. It came with bread that was toasted with cheese on it. Heaven. Our family loves this so much that we started calling it “crack in a bowl” and it is requested often by the kids.
The secret here is goat cheese. If you are unfamiliar with goat cheese or just the name turns you off, I implore you to give it a try just once. It’s worth it. Take your favorite creamy tomato soup or tomato bisque (we have both made our own and used the kind from Costco), heat and then add your favorite goat cheese. Start with about an ounce and taste. If only some in your family want the addition (although we wouldn’t tell them at first) add a good pinch to each individual bowl. Let it melt, mix in and start dipping your bread.
For the bread, we either get a good loaf of Asiago bread and cut into small slices. Drizzle with olive oil and toast in the oven until crispy. You can also take a french bread and top it with Parmesan cheese, toast and eat. Either way, it will be delicious.
