For the purposes of this post, I’m going to go Bakken wide here and not just pick on Williston. After being here for a few years I have come to accept that this area will never be what I want for food. [Read more…] about Top Five Eats in Williston and Beyond
Places to eat
Food is expensive here, ok? I think that should be the new city slogan. In fact, it’s at least 30% more expensive than everywhere else I have visited in this country. When people talk about food here, it’s almost mandatory that you mention this, as if everyone doesn’t already know it. That being said. today my husband and I paid $14.00 for two hot dogs. No drink, so sides, no chips… just the dogs. It was the best $14.00 that we have spent eating out in a long time. This little gem of a place has been hiding in plain sight, I never knew it was here. The owner doesn’t advertise. That’s fine but what happens is, unless you’re in the know, you just don’t know. So here is some free advertising from a very happy customer.
This charming little place is located inside a large store on Main Street called Heddricks’s. They call it Regal Beagle and they stop serving food at 2pm and they only take cash. Thank God I had a 20.00 stuffed in the deep recesses of my purse. The menu is simple and they don’t try and be anything other than what they are. They do have nachos on the menu but those will have to wait until next time. The hot dogs are giant all beef Chicago dogs. Just the word Chicago sent me into a near frenzy. My husband got one covered in chili and I opted for the sauerkraut and mustard. They are huge. They must be 1/2 pound dogs and regarding the chili one, expect to use a fork and knife. You can sit by the window and just watch the world go on around you. It’s clean, charming and the lady running it (forgive me I don’t remember your name) was friendly and made sure we were happy. In fact when I marveled at how I had missed this place, she told us of another couple that had just visited today that also didn’t know they were there. The crazy part of that story is that they have lived here for eight years. The even crazier part of that story is they live right across the street.

I want to write a post regarding every good (and some REALLY BAD) place we have eaten at. Why? It’s simple really, these places are rare. They are gems. Some don’t make it and that’s a shame. They are victims of a town that is odd. Some come here thinking that everything is lined with money and all they need to do is open their doors and people will buy. “Build it and they will come”. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. One example of this was our favorite Mexican eatery, Oh, Burrito!. [Read more…] about Oh! Burrito
