Shopping is NOT fun here. I repeat… oh never mind, you get the point. The worst thing for me is that there are no fun places to shop. I’m not a big spender when it comes to just buying superfulous stuff. I like to window shop though and you can’t do that here. Walmart doesn’t count. There are no malls, and very very few mom and pop stores. I can see I’m going ot have to travel into Canada soon to find something to look at. [Read more…] about Walmart in Williston
No one is ever going to accuse this dish of being beautiful but it sure is tasty. While I would like to say that I’m super organized and using a slow cooker is something that helps me streamline my busy day, that is not the case today. I have recently discovered the TV show American Horror Story and I’m watching the entire second season over a few days. I just couldn’t do that AND make an elaborate dinner, now could I? Thankfully my family didn’t much mind and I got to finish this series. Thank goodness, I wasn’t getting anything else done. [Read more…] about Mongolian Beef for the slow cooker
One of the most difficult things for me to understand is the sheer amount of abandoned animals. I looked around hoping they had a program like they did back home that would allow you to bring in trapped cats and they would spay and neuter them and re-release them. At least it stopped them from having more litters. No such program here. There is currently a litter of kittens living under our home. They are afraid of people but I know of many other kittens around. Many will likely freeze this winter. [Read more…] about Another abandoned kitten
I learned an important lesson today, or perhaps more than one. I wanted to make a lovely dinner and thought I would make a run into Montana to get some fresh ginger. It was 20 degrees out, so thinking it a bit warm, I literally paused at my door for about ten seconds staring at my coat and gloves wondering… do I need you? I grabbed the jacket but left the gloves. This proved to be lesson number one, NEVER LEAVE WITHOUT MY GLOVES. I got halfway to my destination and pow, the back tire blows. The NEW back tire. Amazingly I have cell service. Word to the wise, if you use T-mobile and are moving this way, switch now. Verizon is the only thing that works with any dependability here. I got lucky. I’m sitting in my office (at home, poor me) and I’m freezing. I think my toe nails are purple. It’s not even that cold. We are at about 20 degrees today but there is quite a bit of snow on the ground. I’m just not motivated today. I’m also nursing a cold, the first one in two years and I’m ready for it to go away. Looking out the window the snow is smooth and sparkles like it’s covered in gems. Very deceptive that snow is. My car has built up an accumulation of snow too, and not just on the outside. The stuff that gets dragged in the car never melts. [Read more…] about Even the snow IN my car will not melt.
I just might be crazy. During what must have been a weak moment, I agreed to move, house and home to North Dakota so my husband could realize his dream of finally making what he was worth. To find a job where the paycheck you get at the end of the week could possibly justify the hours you have to spend away from your family. It seemed logical enough, he was working crazy hours anyway and I like adventure, right? [Read more…] about We’re moving where?
